Updates in

Updates for yesterday are taken care of. UFL teams continue to stumble in conference tournaments with only a handful left. The NHL was quiet and UFL teams went 5-0 in the NBA.

With the WGA-CA half over, I have set the cut for the top half of the 80 player field, which includes everyone except Ziggy's Sergio and "Campbell's" Ogilivy. This is kind of arbitrary as tournaments often cut slightly less than half (70 of 144), but I don't see any argument to exclude Tiger or Vijay who tied for 35th or to include Ogilivy who finished tied for 44th. My player (Tiger) is involved so if anyone has a problem, let me know.

In the tournament, Herman's Lefty has a 2 shot lead, Matty and Lyons made astute last second pickups in Rory McIlroy and Jim Furyk respectively, and Villegas continues to play well for Patty. For me, at least Tiger is 3 under through 10 as I type this.

Bets Go Here

Here's the deal. If you want to propose a bet do it as a comment on this post. If you decide to accept a proposed bet, then start your comment with "NEW BET TO BOOK" in all caps and then repeat the terms of the bet EXACTLY. Only finalized bets should begin this way and not slight ziggifications of the original proposal. Go ahead and negotiate, but it must be clear when the bets are final.

Updates, Golf ongoing

Bunch of games yesterday. UFL BCS NCAA teams put up a pathetic 2-4 record, though non-BCS and NHL teams were dominant. Golf is ongoing and UNC is in trouble as I write this.

Bunch of Stuff including new way to use points

I dropped Oklahoma because they are who I thought they were and lost in the first round of the Big XII tourney. My bad luck that Kansas goes down as well, but I still feel I made at least the half right move.

Why byes aren't worth points:
Take a look at the conferences that have a bye. They have a bye because they let more teams in the tournment. I think if you look at points possible, it is all even (except when a Baylor makes a huge run in a big format which should be rewarded anyway.)

Bean and I discussed it last night and I am considering instituting a new means of collecting/losing points in the UFL: Gambling. We think you should be able to bet your UFL points. As a beta test of the idea we propose an NCAA bracket pool in which the entry fee is 10 UFL points. Winner take all. Losers drop 10 points. We think that open gambling with points would get everyone excited again and would ensure that no one is ever truly out of it as long as Patty is willing to bet with them.

I went to college with this fool

Start clip at 1:00 in

They don't call it the dirty south for nothing.

I'm Fucked

KU loses to Baylor. Classic Mark move...go bold AND go home...that's how I do it...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another day

Updates taken care of. Lyons knocks me out of the Champions League while Bussman gets a win from Roma, but is eliminated by Ben's Arsenal on penalty kicks. No college basketball teams active yesterday, but today is a different story and golf is going on as I type this.

Updates, Golf, Patty Dominance

Updates are done. Patty and Brian move on to the next round of the Champs League; Herman and Zig go down to rather lopsided defeat. On the bright side, Herman's Venezuela and Zig's Cuba do advance in the WBC. Matt has already commented on the Dominican's ignominious defeat so I won't rub it in, though I will note this likely opens up an easier path for Lyons's US team to the semis.

The WGA-CA starts tomorrow, so be sure to check the field to make sure your golfer has entered. The field is half the normal size so I assume someone important has decided to forgo the event. Commish, do you think players should get a bonus (double or maybe 50% more) for making a much more difficult cut?

And one last note. As I was updating the sheet I noticed Patty's amazing overall performance. He has racked up the most points in NCAA (BCS), NCAA (non-BCS), Golf, and the NHL and has tied for the most points in the NBA, the WBC, and Champions League. He is either in the lead or tied for the lead in every category aside from women's tennis. Not bad.

Last half of this round of the Champs League today. Co-favorites Manchester United and Barcelona are both vulnerable, so it might get interesting.

Real Quick

So I've been on the move lately and will be in Europe the next two months ... But don't think you can forget about the gangsters. I'm definitely going to the Netherlands so I can smoke some of the performance enhancing drugs those guys are on. Jesus H. Cristo, the WBC is a fucking joke with all the best players sitting out.

Anyway, let's focus on the good stuff, like Pitt and the #1 seed they're gonna get in the tournament. Or Utah and their pimpin' RPI rating.

Also, gotta give props to Mark for trying to trade Oklahoma before they were exposed as chumps who can't win big games. I guess it didn't work out, but he had the right idea.

Calm before storm

Updates.

Full scoring report: Rockets get Matty a win, Gonzaga gets "Campbell" a win, and Pat's Puerto Rico is the 4th team into the 2nd round of the WBC.

Today is much bigger. Four soccer games imminent and Herman's Venezuela must beat Italy and Matt's Dominican Republic must win its rematch against the Netherlands to advance. Both are heavy favorites. Bussman's St. Mary's lost to Gonzaga in its conference tourney and is now on the bubble.

Transactions 3/8 to 3/15

For the next week. Commish can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we decided that owners whose teams have lost in conference tournaments are locked from picking new teams until after Selection Sunday.

Updates, Quick Soccer Preview

Updates are in.

Lyons's US team in the WBC is the third team into the 2nd round while my Korea has earned a number one seed there. So silly is the WBC system that Japan can literally skunk Korea a few days ago, but be stuck as the two seed after Korea wins a rematch 1-0. In college basketball, Brian's Northern Iowa becomes the first team to make the tournament while Ziggy's Davidson lost in its conference semis and is on the bubble.

And for tomorrow's soccer, here's a quick update on what I'm pretty sure teams need to advance:

2:45 PM:

Panathinaikos - Villareal - Both unowned, won't bother.

Juventus - Chelsea (Campbell) - Unowned by actual owners, won't bother.

Bayern Munich (Brian) - Sporting Lisbon (Ziggy) - Sporting Lisbon needs to win 5-0 to force a shootout or by 6 goals to advance outright. Good luck Zig.

Liverpool (Pat) - Real Madrid (Herman) - Real needs to win to advance. A 1-0 win would send the teams to a shootout, any other Real win is enough to win outright.

Wednesday 2:45

FC Porto - Atletico Madrid - Unowned, will not bother.

Barcelona (Matt) - Lyon - Barcelona needs to win or tie at 2-2 or higher to advance. 1-1 would send the game to a shootout, 0-0 and Lyon wins.

Manchester United (Lyons) - Inter Milan (Me) - Manchester United needs a win to advance. Any tie above 0-0 sends Inter Milan through. Another 0-0 game would lead to a shootout.

AS Roma (Busman) - Arsenal (Hawks) - Roma needs to win by 2 goals or win 1-0 to force a shootout. Otherwise Arsenal moves on.

Patty breaks 200, still sucks

Patty has cracked 200. Everyone else is looking up at him. Our only chance may be if Patty joins some type of "big money" ultimate fantasy league to distract him. Lot of college basketball games and lots of wins by UFLers yesterday. Korea has joined Japan in the second round of the WBC and Bussman's Taipei has been eliminated. The Domincan Republic's loss, though embarrassing, should have little effect on their move to the next round.

The biggest rivalry in sports is renewed as Ziggy takes on Herman in the Duke-UNC matchup today.
