Phase one over

Ben's Lakers take the NBA title and move him into a reasonably strong third place. Incidentally, if anyone cares, the Lakers also move into the top spot as the most valuable team in the UFL this season, though I'm pretty sure whoever wins the BCS championship will end up with the top spot.

As a refresher, when the UFL began three major sports were ongoing and now all three have ended. Ben's Lakers, the second NBA team picked, won the NBA championship while Hermann's Tar Heels were the first NCAA team picked and won their championship. On the flip side, Matt picked up the Penguins about 2/3 of the way through the season. Oh and I just looked up the soccer teams and Matt won with Barcelona who were the third team picked after Lyons' ManU and Bussmann's random Roma pick. And Brian won the WBC with Japan who was the third team picked after Lyons' USA and Zig's Cuba.

I don't know why I figured that out, but at least I realized that Lyons picked the first NBA, UEFA, and WBC team and got no championships out of any of them.

Golf US open starts on Thursday, Wimbledon a week from Monday.

  1. Your observation is accurate and is why I didn't argue with your power ranking. I had an early season strategy based on the idea that sports played early in the UFL season should be easier to predict than those ending later. Perhaps that is still true in theory, but I apparently picked poorly. I think Man U sort of blew it against Barcelona and KG's injury was a killer, but the strongest part of my draft class is most definitely done and I'm left with crap.

  2. They weren't bad picks. I certainly thought the US and Man U were the favorites in their respective leagues. And while I wouldn't have picked the Celtics since there were 2 other equivalent NBA contenders, there were certainly a defensible pick.
