On this the First Day of UEFA Play

I thought I might share a couple nice chants with you that I found on line at work. Is this actually what they say? It always sounds so nice on the TV. See below:

Who's that team they call the Arsenal?Who's that team we all adore? They're the boys in red and white,And where fucking dynomite,'Cos Georgy Grahams mother is aWhooore,Yeah she's a whore, yeah shes aWhooore

My old man...My old man said be a Tottenham fanBut I said fuck off bollocks, you're a cunt, you're a cuntWe'll follow the Arsenal over land and seaWe'll follow the Arsenal unto victory

Drink, Drink....Drink, drink, wherever you may be,We are the drunk and disorderly,But we don't give a shit, and we don't give a fuck,Coz we came home with the Cup Winners' Cup!"

Campbell couldn't even write them this well.

On a side note. My Roomate will not be renewing his portion of the lease on the house so I'll have an open spot starting March 1st. If any of you have an interest in a nice house in Maplewood with a big deck, Washer, Dryer, etc. Let me know. If not, I'm off to an apartment.

Hull City goes down today. On Arsenal!

Ziggy v. Herman x 2 On Saturday!

Man, rough night in the NBA. The only UFL teams not active were the Celtics (Conatus) and the Nuggets, A la Matt, who play the Magic next and are going to get their asses handed. The others were 3-5. Quite rough considering we should just have the ten best teams in the league represented. Even though Herman, Ben, Bussman, Brian and, notable, Ziggy, all lost, the worst loss of the night belongs to Dan "I'm So Smart" Scallet. Dan dropped the Jazz (who won tonight) for the Hawks. The Hawks lost to the WORST team in basketball, the Golden State Warriors. A team so bad, even Oakland won't let them say they actually play there. Good move Dan! Win the next 2 and you are +2 points! (Assuming the Jazz don't win tomorrow night.)

College Basketball:

No one had Yale? You, sirs, have the boorish manners of a Hasty Podding lad!

NHL
Myself, Campbell (or "me" depending on Campbell's performance), and Patrick all won this evening.

Standings:
1. Conatus (14)
1. Otis(14)
1. B&G(14)
2. E.H. Schnuck (12)
2. BenBounce (12)
2. Da Zone Lives (12)
3. Born Again (10)
3. Pineapple (10)
3. Team A (10)
4. Sorry-ass Herman's team (6)

TOMORROW:

NHL
Ziggy's Red Wings v. Herman's Sharks
Brian's Bruins v. Bussman's Capitals (eve of Inauguration(-)2= an omen?)
Dan's Flames v. the Coyotes who ate his baby
Ben roots for his Blackhawks v. Blues
Filthy job stealing Canadiens owned by Matt v. Filthy canadien Senators
Patrick's Devils v. Islanders (Lock)
Mark's Flyers get some well deserved rest after a good win in overtime this evening.

NBA--2 Head-to-head UFL match-ups

NO (Ziggy) vs. Piston (Herman)
Magic (Campbell) v. Nuggets (Bosac)
Spurs (Brian) v. a team that beat Patrick's team (Bulls)
Celtics (Conatus) are going to commit some war crimes vs. the pitiful denizens of NJ

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Georgetown (Campbell) vs. Duke (Ziggy)
Miami of Ohio (Matt) v. Kent State (Ben, even though Ben doesn't control it, but he is the only person I've ever met that went there...unless Neil Young counts...)
No. Iowa v. Drake (Brian)...That one has to kind of pull at the heart strings, doesn't it Clarice...when the private school that shunned your "kin" battles the public school that grand ma'ma wouldn't "cotton to"...not so easy as Iowa St. vs. Creighton, is it Clarice?

By the way Brian: $25 on the Iowa State v. Missouri game tomorrow?

Butler (Herman) vs. Ill. Chicago
Oklahoma (me) vs. Texas A&M...very nervous about this one...A&M is tough.
Davidson (Ziggy) vs. Georgia So. (His whole fucking team is playing today!)
Wake (Dan) v. Clemson
Arizona St. v. UCLA (Brian)
Illinois v. Mich. St. (Ben)
Pitt (Matt) v. Louisville (someone should pick them up...I am chicken, but Bussman, Patrick or Ben should pick up Louisville because they are awesome and will make the Semi-finals of the NCAA tourney...actually since they are in the Big East and are going to beat Matt's team tomorrow, he should probably pick them up right now.)

HOT CATS 11-6 v. USC 11-5 in case anyone wants to drop their title contender for a piece of non-silver shit!

UAB at Memphis (B&G)
San Francisco at Gonzaga (Campbell) [Gonzaga will win by about 27. I would bet money on that line.]
Pepperdine at St. Mary's (Bussman) [Give the cock stroker credit here...very late round pick-up that entered the top-25 after he drafted her.]
Miami at UNC (Herman)...you know...things go JUST right tomorrow, and Herman could be in first place.
Boise St. at Utah St. (Ben)

God bless each of you, and [g]od bless the UFL.

Silent Campbell Is Pissing Me Off

Campbell's silence speaks volumes...one pissy message, then nothing. If he doesn't want his team, then I'll take it. That team fucking rocks. I just watched Orlando sweep the Lakers...at Staples. Fucking Florida? Kidding me?

So, if Campbell abandons his team, then I am in for $60. I cannot pick up a scoring unit, with my other squad, dropped by either team, with out a third party picking them up first. I also can't trade with myself. If the "Campbell" team wins, I get my $60 back and the rest is split between second and third place.

This takes effect in 1 day-4 weeks, depending on my mood. Campbell! You begged for this league! Quit being you and get in the fucking game...

Back in a minute with the scoring update...

Ziggy vs. Patty!!! Tonight, 7pm Central on ESPN

Biggest showdown yet. So much trash talking already. The Cavs (Patty) vs. NO (Ziggy). Ziggy's vaunted win streak is on the line. For Biscuits, the stakes are even higher--it could be weeks before a another significant head-to-head battle develops to silence the torrent of trash that Ziggy will unleash if he wins tonight...If I were Patrick, I might just Drop Cleveland to avert tragedy.

Other action:
Magic (Campbell) vs. Lakers (Ben)
Rangers (Campbell) vs. Redwings (Ziggy)

5-Way tie for 1st

UFL is tight in the early going. Campbell decided to stick with Gonzaga. Wise. Patty was almost made a fool with Purdue. Bussman had the biggest day with with wins by the Suns, Uconn and St. Mary's. This ties Ziggy for the most points scored in a single day in the UFL (6). This record will be broken, at the latest, when someone makes the cut in a PGA event. No one said that I made a mistake today. I feel like the king of the world! (Check your scores for accuracy.)

Sorry Zig, Sony isn't on the schedule, but these events are

As I said before the draft. There will be 3 PGA non-Major's on the schedule and 3 WTennis non-majors on the schedule. Here are my criteria, in order of importance, for selecting a featured non-major: 1) Televised on a real network (Sony is only on the Golf Channel); 2) an actual non-gimmicky tournament (so the field isn't artificially contracted); 3) Spacing. I'm trying to have one event a month through the PGA champioship, and similar spacing with tennis; 4) Large purse; 5) Total disregard for the FedEx Cup.

The limit on number of golf and tennis tourney's is necessary because otherwise these two sports would swamp everything else.

So, the list:

PGA
Buick Invitational - Feb. 15-18 (Televised on TGC/CBS)
World Golf Championships-CA - March 12-15 (TGC/NBC)
MAJOR: The Masters - April 9-12 (Gonna get this green just like Augusta!)
The Player's Championship - May 7-10 (TGC/NBC)
MAJOR: U.S. Open - June 18-21
MAJOR: Brittish Open July 16-19
MAJOR: PGA Championship August 13-16

WTennis
MAJOR: Australian Open - Jan. 19-Feb. 1
Dubai Tennis Championship - Feb. 16-22
Sony Erickson Open - March 25-April 5
MAJOR: French Open - May 25-June 7
MAJOR: Wimbeldon - June 22-July 5
MAJOR: U.S. Open - August 31-Sept. 13
Sony Erickson tour Championships - Oct. 26-Nov. 1

I would prefer to end the Tennis season with a major, but that just doesn't fit well with trying to have 3 non-majors that actually matter.

Undefeated at 5-0

Or as Patty would put it...best start in UFL history.  How about a power rankings each week / month Lyons?  At this rate I will have this league wrapped up by Halloween 09.  Bean I got my eye on Arsenal....lets talk trade.  Ernie Els poised to be a point monster in the Sony PGA tourney next week if the price is right he could be on your team.  Holla

New Updates; Think things are settling

Scores have been updated.

Bussman: I gave you Cavendish because I remember you drafting him. I just didn't enter him and, therefore, I accidentally gave him to Brian as the best available. All better now.

Campbell: Well, I drafted Georgetown for you and they beat Syracuse tonight, so now you have at least 2 points in college basketball before you drop them for the hot cats. Also feel free to drop Florida FB which I got you with the 10th pick about 4 minutes after tebow said he was coming back.

Finally, check those scores closely! I think I'm getting better, but the only way I will be perfected is through constant criticism.

Big games tomorrow: Suns (Bussman) vs. Nuggets (Matt); Hot Cats (Campbell?) vs. UCLA (Brian); Flames (Dan) vs. Sharks (Herman)...Herman also has Butler going. Non-BCS BB wins are the difference between the winners and the Hermans.

It's coming together

Campbell: Welcome back! I understand that you need an excuse to not pay...expected...but don't dis the team I drafted for you. It is awesome, except for the Cardinals, but I knew you'd want them. View everything here.

Keep me honest on the scoring. I'll get better. But please don't bitch about the scoring not being in real time (i.e., Davidson tonight.) I'll update all the scores later tonight after the west coast games are done.

Bussman: Sorry. I'll give you your racer. He just told me to pick the best off my best available. Guess I hadn't entered it yet. I have no idea who is on the clock for racing at this point, but I think I posted something earlier.

Bad News for Herman Already

Venezuala might lose Santana. I know you will shed a tear.

New Standings, Tomorrow's action, ect.

Click the title to view for yourself, but after our first 2 full days, the cream is rising, indeed. Patty has adopted an aggressive drop/add strategy in NCAA basketball (after lobbying heavily for the abolition of all drop/adds) and has found early success. Purdue's performance between now and Sunday will speak volumes for Patrick's prospects. Brian still needs to draft a lot of things, but relax, not only did he make the spreadsheets that make this all possible, but when bugs emerged last night--he fixed them.

Standings

1. Conatus (8)
1. B&G (8)
2. BenBounce (6)
2. Otis (6)
2. E.H. Schnuck (6)
3. Pineapple (4)
3. Born Again (4)
3. Team A (4)
4. 2 Cats in a Bath Tub (0)
4. Da Zone Lives (0)

Tomorrow:

*FEATURED HEAD-TO-HEAD GAME OF THE DAY: LA Lakers (Ben) vs. San Antonio (Brian)
Utah Jazz (Dan) vs. Oklahoma City
Boston (me) vs. New Jersey
New Orleans (Ziggy) vs. Dallas

Pitt (Matt) vs. South Florida
Duke (ziggy) at Georgia Tech (This game is at Georgia Tech. I recall Duke losing to Georgia Tech about 5 years ago when ranked number 1 AT Georgia Tech and then Tech went on to the the NCAA finals AND the Duke point guard ended up crashing a motorcycle and now works at Wendy's.)
Wake (Dan) at Boston College
Georgetown (Campbell) vs. Syracuse (This one is tentative...I still am custodian of Campbell's team and might drop Georgetown and pick up Syracuse before the game...tough call.)
Mich St. (Ben) at Penn St. (Ziggy, have you noticed that these are all conference games? Do you know who Baylor is playing tomorrow? Texas A&M? What conference is A&M in?)
Miami of Ohio (Matt) vs. Ohio
Elon vs. Davidson (Ziggy)

Capitals (Bussman) vs. Penguins
Sabres vs. Black Hawks (Ben)
Redwings (Ziggy) vs. Ducks

Man, I hope I have the energy to do this everyday.

Head-to-Head for 1/13

Lots of action tonight in the NBA and NHL, but only one head-to-head match-up for the UFL:

Bosac (Canadiens) vs. Brian (Bruins)

Trust me, these two are natural rivals.

Side bets on head to head match-ups are encouraged.

Scores have been updated and I am out to an early lead.

Transactions 1/12-1/18

First things first: Suck it Patty! Oklahoma defeats Texas in the first major showdown of the UFL season.

Now on to business.
Guys, calm down. I swear I have thought this through. Before I get to the transaction contraversy, here are the transaction logistics. Every week I will create a post titled like this one. It is only to be used for noting transactions in the comments. For almost everything the first time stamp wins. In some very scpecial circumstances we can use a bottom up waiver order. I think the NCAA tournament and the cycling races are good candidates. I hesitate to use a waiver system beyond that, because 1) for routine transactions it is just unnecessary 2) more active participants should get this slight edge and 3) MOST IMPORTANT: A waiver system means I have to wade through back channel emails constantly AND I would constantly be accused of stealing someone's idea when I make a move ahead of them on the wire.

A transaction is a drop/add or a trade. (This week you can also place the shit storm of transaction debate in comments to this post.)

Now on to the contraversy: I have no problem locking Golfers before a golf tournament and tennis players before a tennis tournament and WBC and LLWS start at octofinals so I have no problem locking them at the start of the tournament. With ten units owned we are guaranteed at least a little head to head action. Other than that I think locking anything is unnecessary. Take for example the NCAA tournament. We could lock everyone into their two teams and that's it...but I think that is boring. It is also unneccessary. If your non-BCS basketball team loses in the first round and you pick up another one in the second round, odds are they are going to lose too. With no additional points. That is the nature of cinderellas in the tournament. However, with my system of no locks in the tournament we are guaranteed to have every team in the Final eight owned by someone in this league. That means four head to head matchups in that round followed by guaranteed head-to-head in the semi and the final. That's exciting. That is awesome for shit talking. That is like the fantasy football playoffs in March.

As for cycling, if you can't drop and add during the races, then one person will possibly get 25 points and the rest of the league will top out at 3 or 6. 25 for one of us is even very speculative. The "leader" of a team falls off his bike and is out of the race more often than he'll win a stage in a major race. I see each race more as a season unto itself than an individual game.

Give this a couple weeks, okay. The top ten units in most sports are now owned by someone in the league. Transactions are going to happen, but NFL Teams aren't like wide recievers, the talent pool is just not deep enough for the transactions to become burdensome.

well that all fell to shit....and it was awesome.

it was all going so smoothly, then it got late, and people got cranky. google-talk was glitching people out, someone kept trying to draft their own fantasy team, someone else kept hurrying everybody and saying we should skip them, and the rest of us didn't help the situation, teasing, name-calling, etc... and then finally, it took three hours and we are all still 3 picks shy of a complete team, but somehow points started to accumulate yesterday.
i have to say boys, i like it. its so complicated my brain hurts, there are computer programs running that i didn't even know existed, we are (essentially) betting on little leaguers, and the guy who used the "random number generator" for picking order ended up with the first pick.
this UFL has the markings of history, and i'm excited to be apart of it.

Finish Draft Right Here!

Way to kick off the regular season with our first post Bussman! It is nice to see that your inexplicable early round picks were not a sign that you gave up before we began.

Here's how we'll finish: We will go sport by sport and only the people who do not have that sport filled will pick. Post all picks as comments on this post. When it is your turn to pick in a category make your pick and then end it with "(next guy in line) is on the clock". For example, Herman will make his pick for the AFC and then say, "Bussman is on the clock."

Finally, I figure I made a couple errors. I figure this because not everyone has the same number of open slots. (I'm pretty sure I gave Ben's cyclist to Herman, so check that first). Anyway, I can fix any problems.

On with the Draft!

Draft completion

I'm brain dead. Will figure out how to finish this in the morning. Scoring started today so we should have new rankings tomorrow. Hope eeryone has some energy left for the coming year.

Weird

For some reason, I could see you all chatting but you couldn't hear me. With the pick that got skipped, I want Inter Milan, as I told Lyons.

Google Draft in 30 Minutes

I've added each of the emails you registered for the blog with as a contact. Log into Google Talk with that email and I will invite you to the group chat that is the draft room.

Draft Day Snap Shot

These are the records for the NBA and college basketball as well as for UEFA that will form the baseline for scoring...just total wins - how ever many wins they had this morning. This is just for scoring transparency.

Draft!

As long as everyone has a Google Talk thingy we are all good. If you do not have a google account, just set one up. At draft time start trying to get me to invite your google talk id to the chat and we are golden. Also, call patty and tell him he is a little dick douche, cause I have gone out of my way to set him up and he is still absent, while being the tenth spot in the league...patty and campbell, can't trust either one.
