Updates and Transactions 7/27 - 8/2

I have updated the standings from my vacation on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Yes, my lonely devotion to the UFL foolishly extends that far. Not much has happened beyond Contador's victory in the Tour de France propelling me to a pretty secure 5th place. The Yankees do threaten to extend Bosac's lead even out of reach of the massive points awarded to the BCS champion, but it's a long season.

Most importantly, we're six weeks from ZOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE season.

  2. Dan brings up an important point. It is definitely not too early to start the Byzantine ordeal that is scheduling Da Zone fantasy draft. Also, there is the messy business of who is getting booted to make room for Dan. This is awkward for me to broach as I was the last new addition to the league. I know there will be an instant cry for Campbell's head, but remember that Campbell is paid up, and therefore, if not quite standing on the moral high ground, then he is at least not mired in his usual quick sand. Campbell will now get pissed that I am so much better than him at crafting a metaphor and say something wildly inappropriate about me, but I nonetheless hope we can find someone else to purge...perhaps someone with a very German name (read: probably a Nazi) who recently declared all fantasy sports not worth the time it takes to oil and twirl an ironic mustache? Let the hating begin!

  3. I think we should draft on Sept 6th (Sunday) sometime. All the pre season games will be done by then and the 1st game is on Sept 10th (Thursday) followed by the greatest day of the year Sept 13th (Sunday) Week #1 at DDDDDDAAAAA ZZZZZOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEEEEE TTTEEEENNNNDDDDEEERRRRLOIN

As far as who should get the ole heave ho (to let Troy's not so silent partner in) I say Patty gets the boot. Has he ever won anything in this league....nope. As a former champ myself I like to play the best year in and year out. Sorry Patty but choking in the playoffs for the last 6 of 7 years has finally caught up to you. Plus how many Zone weeks did you miss last year 1..2.. way to many to count. C YA

  4. Perhaps I broached this the wrong way...Are there any volunteers to quit Da Zone league? I can only think of one that might see this, but there might be more. What is the best way to reach out to everyone and see if anyone just wants to quit...probably no one wants to, but Bussman might because fantasy sports no longer do it for him and also because I'm not leaving the league and I plan to up my trash talking game big time this year...really take it to the next level.

  5. grrrrrr. what many are my chagrins at your successful ploy to get me on this site.

firstly, i believe it is time to bust out the ole preseason mass email list for this topic.
in the interest of fairness, everyone should have a disposable voice and/or ear.
zig, can you get that started? tis the season

now it really is of ceaseless unbelievability how hard it is for us to all even sort of agree on something, anything, isn´t it.

    here are my points.

we can´t possibly boot anyone, unless, like lyons said, they want out. but neither should they be pushed. and adding an outsider? i´m sorry but this is a special, gated community.
another silent andy, call him stranger dan if you want, and whether silent or not i don´t care, there is nothing akin to growing up in the schoolyard with the opposition, in the locker room with mr. rugraf, and witnessing each players specific responses to eric moore´s unique competitive pressure power plays.

as i see it, boat is full.
    noone should be planked.
dru, an all-time evil nemesis, cannot (who were the smurfs without gargamel?).
bussmann, one of the very few reasonable, far-sighted pushovers with perspective, cannot (the princess smurf of the group. and how can you kill off the only girl besides triple troika?).

boot me if i am voted ok, but i say no! to change in this case and plead with fair (as in beautiful, not just) ziggly to open up the preseason group email. evidently, again, there is lots to discuss

    love,
    jeff campbell

ps. sorry stranger dan. i don´t know you so that makes it easier for me to box you out and pigeon hole you as yet another lyons nightmare.
    my respects and apologies
what i think we are developing is a leauge with tradition, steeped in lifelong rivalry and boiling over with long simmering hate and disdain. an invite for you would do what bringing in the arizona diamondbacks or the florida panthers did-dilute and lessen the classics
    i just can´t imagine such a world

  6. Campbell makes a number of strong points and I believe it a testament to his sincerity that his sentence structure might best be decribed as damn near cogent. I'm surprised to be saying this, but I find myself swayed...there is something to be said for tradition and lifelong rivalry. Now that Bussman and I have allowed our lifelong anymosity to bubble to the surface it seems a waste not to have that play out on the field...
I think the best thing might be to simply place Dan on the waiting list until someone quits or stops participating entirely (a la Silent Andy.) I disagree, however, that Dan should be forever kept outside "Campbell's gate" because he didn't go to Clayton. As one who had the audacity to show up at Meramec in the second grade (imagine the shame of my parents not being able to afford a home in Clayton until their late-30's) I am well aware of Campbell's disdain for anyone not born (or at least sired) at the 50 yard line of Gay Field. Campbell's elitism aside, I can't imagine any Claytonian who would make a better league member than Dan. Particularly because when I look around Da Zone each Sunday I see no non-league Claytonians, but I always see Dan.
Consider this Justice Lyons concurring in part, dissenting in part and concurring in the result with Justice Campbell's decision.

  7. Justice Herman, your thoughts?

  8. I love how all the new found life in the UFL league is geared toward talking about Fantasy Football. Fear not, Campbell I'm working to put a group email list together so all parties can speak their voice in one long rambleing email similar to the KC Royal's last place debate that occured a few months ago on this board between Lyons and a player that may or may not exist in real life.

My thoughts are that Dan has been a ghost player in our leauge for years for Troy. (Yes I said it, but we all know it) Even drafting for him once I believe. (Arron Brooks AHHAHAHHA) And I agree with Campbell no one should be thrown out expect for Patty. So I say Dan just team up with Troy offically as 1 team split everything 60/40 with Troy being the brains behind the team and call it a day. A two coach team could be a nice wildcard for this year at the zone. Fighting over bad starts, bad drafting, fighting over the check, and best off all who gets the blame when your does not make the playoffs.
    I say Troy-Dan welcome aboard
    Thoughts.........
