A Dominant Night for the UFL

Yesterday, UFL teams went 17-3 across 4 sports as favorites tended to win out. Four more UFL teams advanced into the Elite 8 and every team left is owned aside from Villanova. All the women's tennis players cruised while Venus, Serena, Zvonarera, Petrova, and Jankovic are all playing their second round matches today.

No need for a preview of tonight, everyone knows who's left in the tournament and who isn't.

Also, though Ziggy is out of the tournament, he is a heavy favorite to win 21 points in the UFL tournament pool. The only scenario I can find in which he loses requires:

Oklahoma to beat UNC
Pitt to beat Villanova
Then Pitt to beat Oklahoma to go to the finals

Everyone is down to one bullet if they have any at all

Well, Lyons only went 1 for 2 last night, but he won the big one when Mizzou knocked out Memphis. Pat takes another blow in a rough week for him, but can console himself with the number one team in the country going tonight. With Xavier and Memphis both losing, that means everyone (aside from zombie Campbell) has lost their non-BCS squad so things are pretty even from here on out as only Duke (Zig) and UCLA (Brian) have fallen in the BCS category.

The second round of the Sony Ericcson is underway today and we have the usual assortment of NBA and NHL games to go along with the last half of the Sweet 16.

Edited to add:

Tennis players going today: Azarenka, Dementieva, Ivanovic, Mauresmo, Safina.

Does Lyons Have a Date with Destiny?

Standings have been updated. With the tournament resuming, we have two big UFL games: Xavier (Lyons) vs. Pitt (Matt) and Mizzou (Lyons) vs. Memphis (Pat). If Lyons can sweep both games, he will enter a virtual tie for first place with Pat and likely celebrate with some delicious bourbon. If he loses both, he'll be forced to drown his sorrows with that same drink.

Hey Bussmann

Dunno why but this made me think of you Mike:

Man gets 90 days in jail in vacuum sex act case

FYI for y´all - I´m in Europe for the next 6 weeks so the trash talk will be sparse and the only sports I might be watching will be Barcelona warming up against one of the local teams before they go out and slaughter your lame fĂștbol squads.

Comen mierda.

On to tennis

I'm pretty sure we've hit a bit of a lull until the weekend. A few scattered wins across the league and everyone gets a tennis win by way of a bye. Standings largely unchanged.

1 - 318.5
2 - 288
3- 210
4 - 256
5 - 275
6 - 202
7 - 260
8 - 294.5
9 - 272.5
10 - 343

Brian whines, Brian wins the WBC

Following some epic self-pity in this week's transactions thread, Brian and his Japanese team prevailed in extra innings over my Korea team making him the first to win a UFL sport. The victory moves him into 4th place and considering that UFL NCAA teams will likely start falling very soon, it's not a bad spot to be in following UCLA's second round loss.

The biggest UFL news of the day is Lance Armstrong's broken collarbone. Though his team has said he will still likley compete in the first UFL event, the Giro de Italia, they don't expect him to even attempt to contend. Another blow for Patty following his weak gambling over the weekend. On the other hand, it is just cycling.

Also, by picking up a new tennis player, Pat just brought it to my attention that the next women's tennis event, the Sony Ericsson Open, begins tomorrow. I'd recommend checking the draw to make sure your player is going.

Tournament ongoing, WBC concluding, Pat bad at betting

With one weekend of the tournament down, everyone has one team left aside from Lyons and Pat with two and Brian with none. I highly regret missing Sienna threaten Lousiville and Ziggy's fleeing moments of triumph, but I persevere.

Tonight our first sport concludes as Korea (me) takes on Japan (Brian) in the WBC final in a battle of one of the first picks against one of the last.

Lastly, Patty's weak betting has brought him back to the pack and given the winner of the tournament a real shot to catch up. I'm sure we all appreciate his generosity.

Transactions 3/23 to 3/30

Make your moves.

Few Things and Betting Results from the Weekend

1) We only get points for advancing in the tourney, not wins.

2) I dropped Kansas after the Big 12 tourney and added Missouri, so please adjust that even though I'd probably rather have KU v. Mich St. than Mizzou v. Memphis...except that Kansas sucks and I hate myself for picking them up even briefly.

3) Wild betting action yesterday at Friendly's...the bet I should have made is "how long can I talk to Katelyn before she storms out in anger. Herman, do you remember what we were arguing about? All I remember is something about Dublin...

Anyway, I spotted young naive Patrick 10 points in the second half of the Wisconsin/Xavier game and we bet 15 UFL points on that outcome. Xavier by 11.

Then Herman wisely wagered me 10 UFL points on the Mizzou/Marquette game and talked me into moving the spread from 4 to 4 1/2. Mizzou by 4, Herman takes 10 points from me.

So, Scallot, knock 15 off B&G, add 5 to Conatus and add 10 to 2 Cats...Or, I'll just use my admin wizard powers to do it...but, I wanted to give you a chance first in order to keep everything straight.

Oh, I think ziggy got in on a bet with the badger licker as well, but I don't have details on that.

Korea moves Schnuck up, NCAA holds form

Yesterday's biggest game, Korea (me) vs. Venezuela (Hermann), unbeknownst to me, turned out to be an elimination game. Venezuela inexplicably started Carlos Silva instead of Felix Hernandez and Korea won in a rout, moving to the finals. Lyons (USA) will face off with Brian (Japan) to determine the other finalist tonight. Oswalt against Dice-K so it should be good.

NCAA BCS teams continued to dominate with UConn (Bussman), UNC (Hermann), Duke (Ziggy), and Oklahoma (me) all moving on and only Brian's UCLA falling. As I said yesterday, Sienna (Ziggy) vs. Louisiville (Pat) will be our first UFL matchup of the tourney. Surprisingly, the only possible sweet 16 UFL matchups are Xavier (Lyons) vs. Pitt (Matt) and Michigan St. (Ben) vs. Kansas (Lyons), so enjoy this one.
