Every sport. All year. One league.

Several Thoughts

OK, first of all, no chance in hell should people be allowed to pick up new UEFA teams. You picked a UEFA team. They're out. You go home now. Just because that sport is different from all other major events in that the finals last about six months doesn't mean you should be able to find loopholes in the spirit of UFL rules.

Secondly, like Demi Moore in A Few Good Men, I strenuously object to the use of point banks as the kitty for possible UFL gambling. I am 100% pro gambling, but this would be an ex post facto incentivizing of trading that we didn't know about at the beginning. If I had known it would enable me to gamble, I would have quit my job and made trades every day. (Don't doubt me.)

Why not create a new block on the database below point bank that is called WAGERING. Everyone gets spotted 50 points. This would in a sense make WAGERING its own category (and shouldn't gambling be part of a true ULTIMATE fantasy league?). Everyone is free to use that 50 points, or whatever those 50 points turn in to, to gamble on UFL-sanctioned sports as much as they want. We could add the stipulation that, like real gambling, 10% of the winner's profits disappear to the "house" (no one).

It will be easy to change the database, and that is the only fair way to do things.

  1. My impression was that anyone could gamble any of their points, not merely points in their point bank. It would, after all, be pretty easy to set a negative number in the field. That said, there probably should be a maximum bet allowed. It wouldn't be fair for 2 teams to gamble everything they have on, say, the Super Bowl allowing one to win the league and the other to end with nothing.

On the Champions League issue, I really don't care. I agree with Brian that people who lose are out, but the points for the league are structured that the remaining teams are pretty much worthless anyway.

  2. My intent on creating a WAGER allotment was to create de facto bet limit. HOWEVER, if someone is savvy enough to turn their x points in to 4x points by the Super Bowl, by all fucking means should they be allowed to wager it all.

  3. On betting I would suggest everyone can make a total of 5 bets through out the season with a max of 5 points per bet. If 25 points if max you could lose gain that is not enough to really sway a team one way or the other. And it would keep a crappy last place teams like Dan's from going from worst to first on the last day of the season. I also think Cuba is great.

  4. ok. so pro soccer just got even more pointless... and in terms of the wagering and points bank and betting UFL points and all that... congratulations, you just took something confusing and made it more confusing-ing, good luck figuring out a winner.

  5. I agree with Ziggy. There has to be a limit to the bets. Otherwise, two teams could collude and split the pot. Also, you cannot make a team bet you. 25 points maximum on 5 bets would be fair.

You absolutely cannot pick up another UEFA team at this stage. The UEFA is like the NCAA tournament. Once your team is out, you are out.

  6. I'm 95% sure Lyons prevailed in the argument on the tournament and you can reload NCAA teams.

  7. I bet Herman 5 points that their is lots more arguing on the betting of the UFL.
